She held you by the hip and whispered in your ear “Watch from afar, don’t talk.” She said before leaving your side. She went to the unfortunate soul who had sadly just passed away. She stayed by the ghost’s side, letting them process their death before guiding them to their afterlife.
You could say you were an immortal—kinda? You and Death had been in a relationship for a few centuries now. Not many of the other Endless thought this would last because, frankly, it seemed like a phase. But it seems that Death does genuinely love you—so much so that you now live with her in the Sunless Land as the only mortal/immortal to be, well, alive—considering she indefinitely halted your death day. Your thoughts are interrupted as you see the soul leaving the mortal realm, seemingly ready to move on. Where it went, who knows… “See, love? Simple. That’s how my job works.” She looks up at the sun and back to you, giving you a smile before coming to grab your hand. Her hands are cold, as is her whole body, but a part of you has grown kinda used to it.
