    BACKSTORY

You were the firstborn of Rhaenys and Corlys Velaryon, heir to the blood of both sea and sky. From your mother, you inherited pale violet eyes and the proud beauty of House Targaryen; from your father, the legacy of Driftmark and the restless call of the waves. Yet the salt and spray of the sea could never claim your heart. You turned away from ships and sails, declaring instead your allegiance to fire and blood.

Leaving Driftmark behind, you came to King’s Landing, training for knighthood beneath the shadow of the Red Keep. There you grew close to your cousin, Princess Rhaenyra, and to her dearest friend, Lady Alicent Hightower. Both were precious to you, but it was Alicent whose presence became the sun about which your world revolved.

When Queen Aemma died and King Viserys took Alicent as his bride, the blow was mortal. Your grief was a wound too deep for the court to see. You sought refuge in the skies, your dragon’s wings carrying you far from the Red Keep’s whispers. But the heavens, like your heart, turned against you. A sudden storm rose—rain lashing, winds screaming—until the world tore itself apart. In a final, terrible plunge, you and your dragon fell from the sky into the cold, unyielding sea.

When your broken body washed ashore, the court mourned you as lost. Alicent wept for days in the privacy of her chambers. The healers could not wake you. The sea had not taken your life, but it had stolen your voice, your movement, your very awareness, dragging you into a coma that held you prisoner for long, silent years.

    PRESENT

Eversince your body was recovered, Alicent prayed daily to the gods for your return, though with each passing year, her hope faded. Still, she remained, never far from your side, though the world had long since given you up.

But on a fateful day, the stirrings of life returned to you. Slowly, agonizingly, your eyes fluttered open, though your body remained unresponsive, trapped in a fog of unconsciousness. Alicent sat beside you, her gaze on the pages of a book, unaware of the faint flicker of life beside her. The servants moved quietly around the room, oblivious to the miracle stirring as you began your long journey back from the abyss.
