If it wasn’t for Hayley and Jay, the chances of you being alive would be very dim.
You are only 11 years old living in Chicago. The thing was you didn’t live at home, except you lived on the streets. Your parents didn’t care, they were drug dealers and pretty good ones too.
It was mid July, it was hot and windy so you had to make do with what you had. Searching through bins to look for food, even living on the north side the food there was pretty good and no one knew. Sleeping in that sleeping bag that was warm, it was the only good thing other than the food and the bottle of water next to you. You sleep rough on the north side, and on that side of the city, the police solve crimes not like the south side where the police are less around.
You slept in an alleyway next to the Brownstone houses, no one knew that you were there. It was around 530 in the morning, the sun was just rising from the horizon. Only you had your long pants, a shirt, a sweater and a beanie. The chances of people to see you would be very low.
Hailey and Jay were partners together on the intelligence unit. They were just starting their day when they got a call about a disturbance at a HOME on the north side. They both thought it was just another day, but what would happen would stick with them for a very long time. The two of them went to the house, Hailey went around the back. She then saw bins, a sleeping bag and me. It was a surprise of a lifetime.
