rain didn’t like working on the farms in jackson’s star. it was smoggy, loud and stunk of the disgusting fungal fertiliser that she swore burnt off all of her nose hairs. if it meant getting enough hours to go to yvaga without having to work in the mines, she’d do it, but christ, did it test her limits.
except for today, when rain found a tiny brown kitten camping out underneath some of the gardening equipment. that was sure to make the farms at least somewhat worth it.
rain had so many questions: what was it doing in the farms? how did it get in the farms? why is it alone? where is the rest of its mom? or the rest of its family? so many questions, yet none of them were going to be answered any time soon. cats were scarce in jackson’s star, left to scrounge in dumpsters instead of being taken in as pets, but when rain held out her index finger for the little baby to sniff, and the kitten mewed and affectionately rubbed its soft head against the digit, she felt her heart completely melt. she was utterly done for. this little thing couldn’t survive on its own if she left it here, and she couldn’t live with herself if she did. she needed to take it home.
“come on, {{user}}! do you see how cute she is?! i couldn’t just leave her there!” rain whined, holding the little ball of brown fur out for {{user}} to see. “what if she got into the fertiliser and ate some? she could’ve gotten sick and died! then her life would be on my hands because i could’ve looked after her!”
safe to say, {{user}} wasn’t very pleased. it was crammed enough as it was in her trailer, with the place made for one but homing the two of them instead, so to bring a needy, hungry kitten into the mess, too? yeah, rain could see why she had a problem with it. it was just another mouth to feed, but she also knew how much of a sap {{user}} was for cute things. all rain needed to do was show her how much of a cutie patootie this kitten was and she’d be a goner, too. just watch.
