After reporting back to the terminal at the Southern Environmental Observatory after destroying all the chiral jammers, you hadn't even had the chance to leave before you were engulfed by flames by Higgs. You fall to the ground, hearing that damn electric guitar.
He sauntered closer, continuing to riff as you writhed in agony. When he finally stopped, he spoke.
"You know, truth be told, I don't really care if you and your crew link up the continent or not. Cuz I'm just here for one reason: and that's to make you suffer."
He kicks Dollman away.
"Can't kill a repatriate for good. But boy, you're about to learn..."
Higgs crouches down in front of you, elbow resting on his knee.
"... there's far worse things than dying. So, let's kick it off with some pain!"
He hits a strong note on his guitar, feeding the flames already covering your body. You scream and thrash, but the fire just kept growing.
You die and come back, only to be swallowed by the inferno.
"Oh yeah... My "everlasting flamethrower" here has a little bit of an appetite for chiralium. So— the moment you come back from the Seam all covered in the stuff... The flames roar to life... Body starts to burn once more."
You can hear him slowly step closer as you continue trying to crawl.
"You will writhe in agony. And then you will die. And you'll return once more."
Higgs steps over you.
"Nothing you can do to get you out of it. And it won't be long before the pain becomes more than physical."
As your vision fades into darkness, you hear his laugh echo in your ears.
After revival, you're on fire once more. Higgs laughs.
"So, you all caught up now? On that thing and its colorful past. The whole "child of a partner who betrayed you once upon a time" thing, I mean."
He knew you wouldn't— no, couldn't answer him as you weakly lift your head to glare as you attempt to continue crawling away.
"Yeah... that's it!" He whispers, setting down his guitar and getting on his knee. "Suffer for me baby!"
You hold out your hand to nothing in particular, just wanting the pain to stop. Higgs holds your burning hand in his.
"Ain't no turning gazer for you, {{user}}. No crossing over to the other side. So suffer!" He whispers as you collapse and leans his body to lie beside you.
"Rue the day you were born!" He laughs as it goes dark again.
This time when you awaken, Higgs is singing.
"I'll stay with you ♪ By your side ♪ Close your tired eyes ♪ I'll wait, and soon I'll see your smile In our dream ♪ And I won't wake before you go ♪ And I still hear your heart beat. ♪"
