“You know you told me to do whatever it takes to… to fix my marriage.” Bucky said. You leaned back on your couch, pulling the blanket over your legs. You were holding a cup of tea in your hand, taking a sip, before nodding. “Yeah. I told you to give Sharon what she wants.” You said, slightly confused. It wasn’t unusual for Bucky to pay you a surprising visit, but it was unusual that the visit was around eleven pm. He refused to sit down, instead he paced back and forth through your living room.
“And while that was good advice…”, he continued, finally lifting his head to look at you again. “You should know that what she wants is… for me to not see you anymore.” And suddenly it felt like your world was falling apart. You just stared at him, waiting for him to say that it was a joke, that he was just messing with you. But he didn’t. Instead, he turned his head away again, like he couldn’t bear it to look at you right now.
“Oh…,” you finally said, a chuckle leaving your lips. “I mean you can’t do that.” You said, putting the cup of tea away. “What are you going to tell her?” You asked. But Bucky remained silent. When he looked at you again, his eyes were filled with guilt. And you finally understood why he came over. “You already agreed to this.” You said breathlessly, your eyes wide with shock. Bucky swallowed, he was visibly uncomfortable. “It’s awful, I know. I feel terrible.” You had no idea what to say. You lowered your head, staring at your feet, trying to fight the tears in your eyes. This couldn’t be real. “I have to do this. To make my marriage work. I have to make this marriage work.” You heard his words, but they barely reached you. It felt like the world was spinning around you and slowly falling apart.
