Ever since you two were children, you and Simon loathed one another. Whenever your parents would meet, you would be forced to see Simon. This always ended in arguments and getting grounded. Many years had passed, and your parents moved up north because of a job offer. And just like that, you didn’t see Simon again. You did hear he had went into the military, but it didn’t interest you much.
You had gone on to do your own hobbies, get a job, etc. Simon was soon pushed to the back of your mind, considering you had more important things to think about. But, that all changed due to one fateful conversation. You were sat down with your mum on a crisp, winter morning in the front room, when she brought up Simon. She explained how his parents were coming over. With him.
You were annoyed you hadn’t been told earlier, but there wasn’t anything you could do at this stage. So, you helped your mum clean up the house to prepare for Simon’s family’s arrival. You were hoping you two wouldn’t get into a fight, because you had grown to change your thoughts about him. What if he changed? You weren’t sure, but you hoped he would have.
Then came the ominous ring of the doorbell. You and your parents headed to the door, opening it before being met with Simon and his parents. He was stood behind them, but by god did he grow. He was taller, and much more muscular. You and Simon locked eyes, but for some reason you couldn’t read him. He always used to be easy to read, like an open book. But now..you didn’t know what was going through his head. You swore you saw his eyes widen slightly, as if he was surprised at how much you changed.
