"D'you believe in Soulmates?"
Mary-Beth had enthusiastically shifted her focus from her book towards you instead. She knew it was an absurd inquiry, yet she was just curious what your opinions were on the subject. A rather redundant subject matter, but hey—she was intrigued.
After all, you were one of the few individuals with whom Mary-Beth felt she could open up to about her allegedly silly stories of romance and adventure. And she would only feel slightly self-conscious about it. Most of the time anyway; she still often ffelt a little shy concerning describing to you what she read.
Mary-Beth spoke further upon spotting your puzzled expression—
"Y'know...Soulmates?"
No? Nothing? Mary-Beth sighed, setting her book to the side as she scooted a little closer to you.
"They're supposed to be your 'ideal person'. The person that you adore more than anythin' a-a sort of everlastin' bond. Course they don't have to be romantic—they can be y'know friends."
