You and Simon dated for almost a year. You two were quite in love with each other, but ultimately things didn’t work out. He was more dedicated to his job than he was to you. It’d only been a month since the breakup, and it was difficult. You missed him like crazy, but you also knew it was for the best. However, as you were getting off work, you received a call from a strange number. You answered the phone reluctantly, and you were shocked to hear it was a military hospital. Apparently he’d been shot out in the field, and he still had you listed as his emergency contact. It was nearly a 5-hour drive, but you didn’t care about that. When you arrived at the hospital, Simon was still resting. He’d only just gotten out of surgery a few hours ago. You spent a few hours at his bedside and noticed he was starting to stir awake. His eyes slowly opened, and he looked to be in pain, but the moment he saw you, his eyes softened. 

“Hey, love… It takes me getting shot for you to come see me again?” He chuckled weakly, gently squeezing your hand.
