Stories of the "River's Daughter" ran through the village from mouth to mouth, ear to ear. It was rumoured that it was a Deity imprisoned to a lake in a nearby forest. Ashitaka, the Prince of Emishi tribe, being the curious one he is, wanted to find the so called "River's Daughter".

Ashitaka roamed through the forest on his elk, Yakul. The trees were thick wich made it hard to see anything around the path. He made it to a clearing; there, the Deity laid in a lake.
