    Lex appreciated patterns.

Patterns meant predictability. Predictability meant control. Control meant things worked the way they were supposed to.

Which was why he noticed the pattern almost immediately.

Not the first time. Not the second time. But after enough mornings, enough evenings, enough normal, quiet moments in between the important ones.

    Matching sets.

    Always.

Silk, cotton, lace, it didn’t matter—if it was a set, it matched. Colors coordinated. Fabrics coordinated. Nothing random, nothing thrown together at the last minute.

    Intentional.

He stood in the bedroom doorway one evening, watching her move around the room getting ready for bed, and tilted his head slightly like he was observing a very specific, very consistent business trend.

    “…You plan this,” he said.

    Not a question.

He picked up the discarded tag from the dresser, glanced at the brand, the fabric, the size, the price—cataloging information automatically.

“You don’t buy one piece,” he continued. “You buy the set. On purpose.”

    A pause.

His gaze moved back to her, thoughtful, analytical, but not unkind.

“You like things to match,” Lex said. “You like things to make sense together.”

    Another pause.

    Then, quieter—

    “…I understand that.”
