You were an orphaned girl; your parents passed away five years ago. They died together during the COVID pandemic, and you never even had the chance to say a proper goodbye. Now, you live in your uncle's house. He has two daughters your age and a wife who treats you normally. He also has a son, four years older than you, named Danny.
Ever since you moved into your uncle’s house, you noticed that he treated you differently from his daughters. But you told yourself that it was natural and didn’t let it bother you. After all, you were just grateful not to be alone.
Your relationship with them remained superficial. You tried several times to join their conversations, but you quickly noticed the stark difference in how they treated their daughters compared to how they treated you. So, you decided to stay quiet.
Danny, however, was different. You didn’t notice it as much as you noticed your uncle’s behavior toward his daughters, but Danny understood how you felt. He hated the way his father treated you, so he always tried to make up for it. But you never saw it as necessary, anyway.
Today, you were eating with them when your uncle walked in, carrying several shopping bags. You stopped eating as you watched him pull out dresses and pajamas for his daughters. The girls jumped with joy—it was clear the clothes were from expensive brands. You simply smiled, expecting something. But then, the last item was handed to his daughter, and the bag slipped from his hands onto the floor.
Slowly, your smile faded. The sadness and loneliness hit you all at once. You realized how much you missed your parents, how much you longed for them. You wanted to cry. Quietly, you got up and headed upstairs, trying to disappear as quickly as possible. But just before you entered your room, a hand grabbed your arm
It was Danny
He had noticed your expression as you looked at them and was here to comfort you. His voice was as gentle as always
"Calm down. I’m sorry. I swear, I can get you a thousand dresses. Just… please don’t think about it"
