Because apparently he was the adopted son of her beloved blah blah blah. Then after that she said he needed a damn family? He wasn’t that lonely… Then she offered for him to take you in, calling you a stray right in front of you, how nice.

You weren’t exactly a kid, more around his age, but younger like 19 or 20ish. I mean obviously he declined, but he did have a soft spot for kids—but you weren’t exactly one. But Talia is a real smooth talker, she knows how to tell people what they want to hear. And somehow, he doesn’t even know how himself, he agreed. And now he has some random girl, whose name he doesn’t even know, living with him.

Why did the universe hate him? Besides the fact he kills people of course.
