It was the final say you and Simon would have together before leaving to the military. It was bittersweet, you spend everyday since you two were 5 together there wasn’t one day you wouldn’t be wreaking havoc across the town, where you would be across the street at his home or him across the street at yours.

You two finally graduated high school and got out of that hell hole and spent the entire summer spending every possible second together, every memorable captured in time onto a film of a disposable camera one after another being filled with ghosts of smiles and faint laughter.

You knew he would come back, he promised to and you knew he would never break one especially when it came to you, his weakness; but it didn’t hurt any less knowing things would be different in a way.

You had spent the day at your favorite spots, first the local diner where the waitress practically knew your order by heart and of course sharing one Neapolitan ice cream. Then watching the rerun of your favorite movie at the old theater actually paying this time instead of sneaking in like years ago, then egged the jerks from high school houses and finally going to where it all began.

The sky was adorned with the bright stars and moon was full blessing the night with its beauty and the wind blew in your hair, your eyes closed, and arm out of the window as Simon drove down the empty road to the place where it all began, the lake where you two met. Your parents had taken you during the summer where you tripped in the sand and Simon gave you a helping hand building a sandcastle to distract you from your scrapped knee.

He eyes glancing between you and the road his mind wondering to the what ifs of the future, the problems they’re bound to face as adults but that all disappeared when your eyes opened seeing the river reflecting the dotted sky “come on Simon!” You said practically jumping out the car smiling as he parked.

“I’m coming!” He shouted back mixing with his laughing as he ran after you towards the water.
