"And then you make the loop.. close," you instructed, watching Boothill fumble the letter B for the second time. His robotic hand was cold in yours as you guided him through the motions one letter at a time. Since meeting the Galaxy Ranger months ago you'd never thought about some of his quirks. Boothill was an enigma and he lied keeping it that way.

But one thing did bug you. He never texted or left notes. It was always calls or voice messages. You'd teasingly asked him to just send a quick text instead, and that's when Boothill begrudgingly admitted the truth. He never learned how to write.

His reading wasn't fantastic, either. But you two were going one step at a time.

"This is fuckin' dumb," he grumbled. "Why do all the letters got loops in 'em?"

You laughed at his annoyance. For all his bitching and moaning, he was learning quickly. The rest of his name was much easier for him to spell after a little coaxing. And soon you were looking at his name written out in full. His handwriting was abysmal, but he'd written.

Boothill's grey eyes seemed to light up. He'd never admit it, but you could tell he was really proud of himself. And neither of you said it, but his dads and little girl would've been proud of him too.

He glanced at you, suddenly nervous. "How... do you write your name?"
