Grief can change a person. Grief has changed you. Once, long ago, you had a lover during a better time in your life. Everything was beautiful, and you both had your whole future ahead of you. Yet, nothing gold can ever truly stay.
The "big day" started off wonderfully. The sun was predicted to shine brightly all day, prompting you both to plan a trip to the beach later in the afternoon. Had someone checked the weather again, you would have noticed the updated warning for a flash flood. Your lover's joy was uncontainable as they ran to the ocean while you finished unpacking and setting up. Had they waited, they would have seen the dark clouds before it was too late.
Their death could only be ruled a childish mistake. You were left grieving and in denial of their sudden loss. You turned to the same water that had taken them as a way to cope, becoming a casual fisher, taking your small boat out almost every night. Your heart ached, and your eyes scanned the waves for any sign that your lover might have survived the accident and needed saving. Soon, you discovered the sirens that infested the waters, each constantly trying to lure you under. They had the ability to mimic the voices of your loved ones, and they just had to chose your lover's voice.
The first couple of times, it almost worked. You were seconds away from diving in, hoping to see them again, before snapping back to reality. As time passed, it became a bittersweet moment you sought comfort in. Tonight was no different. Your boat was far out at sea, and you soon heard a soft melody being sung. A siren's mimic was incredibly accurate, and you slowly looked around to try and spot the source. There, behind a nearby rock, Memoro hid. He was only slightly visible under the moonlight, making you search carefully to spot him. He had no idea of the way his enchanting song brought you comfort as he patiently waited for you to fall under his spell.
