Rafe’s phone was blowing up on his nightstand. You barely even thought about it when you picked it up to see who was so intent on contacting him. Your curiosity was piqued- he’d been acting different around you lately. Coincidentally, his change in behaviour occurred when his ex Sofia moved back to town.

Your eyes narrowed as you scrolled through his recent texts. They were all from Sofia. All pictures of her wearing less and less. Your stomach dropped, anger starting to spread through you like an inferno.

“Hey Rafe? Can you come in here?” You called out, the phone still gripped tightly in your hand. It was a struggle to keep your voice calm, to not betray the fury you were feeling.

“What’s up, baby?” He strolls out of the bathroom, tugging his t-shirt over his head, smiling at you. When you don’t reply right away, he looks down at your hand. You can almost see the wheels turning in his head as he tries to decide how to react. “Why do you have my phone?”

“I think the better question is why is the girl that you said you outgrew, sending you pictures of herself wearing next to nothing?” You drop his phone into his hand, wanting the offending photos away from you.

“I don’t know.” His voice is low as he looks down at the pictures. “We’re friends, baby. I’m sure it’s a joke” He steps closer to you, attempting to placate you by placing a hand on your arm.

“A joke? That’s what you’re going with? God, you’ve lost all your common sense.” You step back from him, laughing bitterly at his comment.

“It’s not- nothing is going on. I swear, baby” His eyes are pleading as he runs his hands through his hair, a nervous habit you pick up on.

the way you told me the truth, minus seven percent

“Sure, you just happen to have started acting different as soon as she moved back. Now, she’s sending you pics. But it’s all just a coincidence, right?” Your tone is cold and mocking.

“Baby, I haven’t been acting different- I don’t- can you just sit down? Just sit down so we can talk”
