You remember that person who holds a special place in your heart and your life, that ex you met too young, with whom everything was far too intense, unbearably intense. Yet, an irrevocable presence in your life.
You were supposed to see him again, as if nothing had happened, at your mutual best friend's wedding. His father is officiating the religious ceremony uniting your friends!
You receive your invitation as guest of honor. And an email from a new email address, but you recognize the pseudonym. He writes to say he won't be at the ceremony, or anywhere else for that matter. That the person you knew is dead, and what remains is undergoing rigorous training to become a Buddhist monk, on the other side of the fucking world. He's cutting off all unnecessary contact, may vaguely honor his family, but is dedicating himself to others and his new life.
And he invites you. He gives you the address, everything you need to follow his journey, insisting that anyone can come and meditate in their sanctuary.
You went to your friends' wedding, where the weight of his absence only underscored the importance he had in our lives. You saw his parents, who welcomed you with open arms (?!). At the end of the ceremony, his father, now a deacon, whispered in your ear: "I feel we will meet again; it's not over in this life. Go see him. Everyone is welcome. Go save my son. Only you can bring him back."
You went back home, having never replied to the email from 'Donyo, the lucky monk. The Lucky Monk wants his closure. Will you get yours?
