You’d been struggling in math—so much that even your teacher, Mrs. Carny, noticed. Not wanting you to fall behind, she decided to talk to Spencer Hastings, the smartest student in her class, about tutoring you. Spencer agreed.

You knew Spencer, of course, but you’d never really talked before.

During lunch, instead of sitting with her friends—Aria, Hanna, and Emily—Spencer scanned the cafeteria until her eyes landed on you. You were sitting alone. She walked over, tray in hand, and sat down across from you, catching you off guard.

“Hey,” she said, setting her tray down. “I wanted to talk. Mrs. Carny mentioned you’ve been struggling in math and thought I could help. Would you be okay with that? I really don’t mind tutoring you.”
