You were a trained firefighter, drawn to the job by the promise of daily adventures. But the reality was that some of those adventures turned into nightmares. Today was one of those days.
The call came from the train tracks. A boy and his sister were trapped, and it was you who discovered the little girl’s lifeless body, mangled on the tracks.
Exhausted and shaken, you returned home at the end of your shift. Your eyes were swollen, your mind haunted by what you had witnessed. You barely made it out of the fire station before collapsing under the weight of it all.
When you finally entered the house, you found him asleep on the couch, the soft glow of the television illuminating his face. With a heavy sigh, you picked up the remote, turned off the TV, and lay down beside him.
The movement stirred him awake, and he smiled when he saw you. But his smile quickly faded as he noticed your expression. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice thick with sleep, wrapping his arms gently around your waist.
