BEING WITH PABLO FELT LIKE CHASING SUNSETS YOU DIDNT WANT TO END. Not just because of the places you went — but because of him.
You’d never imagined the two of you in the middle of the African savannah, but here you were. Hot wind brushing against your skin, the air heavy with the scent of earth and grass, the low rumble of distant lions in the background.
Pablo sat beside you in the open-roof jeep, his hair messy from the wind, sunglasses slipping down his nose as he leaned forward to spot movement in the tall grass.
“Look,” he whispered, pointing.
A family of elephants lumbered across the plain, the smallest one stumbling to keep up. You smiled, but you weren’t sure if it was because of the scene in front of you — or because of the way Pablo’s voice softened, like he was afraid to disturb the peace.
For a while, neither of you spoke. You just sat there, watching the animals move slowly against the backdrop of the setting sun, golden light painting the edges of everything. His hand found yours without looking, warm and certain.
“I think I could stay here forever,” he said.
And you knew he didn’t just mean here, in the jeep, in the wild. He meant here, with you.
