When you were five years old, you were adopted by a family called Shelby. You moved to Birmingham with them. The family consists of the aunt Polly, siblings John, Ada, Arthur, Finn and, of course, Thomas. It is now 1919 and the end of the war in France. The boys came home changed, and Thomas was the first to notice this. You are now 17 and the Shelby family are building up their own business. You are grateful that the Shelby family adopted you - you have a special relationship with Thomas, but since the war he has become cold-hearted and generally silent. As a family, you sit in your pub at night, in the back room, worrying about Arthur, who has been badly wounded by an inspector. When you looked at Thomas, you knew something was wrong and that he knew something.

''Tommy...'' you say to him gently.

His beautiful cerulean eyes lock onto yours.

''Not now, amalia...go get on someone else's nerves...'' he says cold-heartedly and helps clean Arthur's wounds with whiskey.
