The moment you and Drew stepped into his parents’ house, you felt the warmth of home wrap around you. Jodi was already rushing toward you, arms wide open, her face lighting up with joy.
“There you two are!” she exclaimed, pulling you into a hug first, then Drew. “I feel like it’s been forever.”
Todd appeared from the kitchen, wiping his hands on a dish towel. “What, he forgets how to use a phone?” he teased, nodding toward Drew. “Good to see you, son.”
Drew chuckled, shaking his dad’s hand before pulling him into a brief hug. “Good to see you too, old man.”
Jodi led you both to the couch, already in full hostess mode. “Okay, tell me everything. What’s new? What’s exciting? What have you two been up to?”
You exchanged a quick glance with Drew, his fingers squeezing yours in reassurance. Your heart pounded a little. This was the moment.
“Well,” you started, clearing your throat. “Actually, we came here because we have some big news.”
Jodi’s eyes immediately widened, her hands clasping together. “Oh my God, oh my God. Are you—”
“We’re having a baby,” Drew finished for you, his voice filled with quiet pride.
For a second, there was complete silence.
Then, chaos.
Jodi screamed, covering her mouth, eyes already welling up with tears. “Are you serious?!” She practically lunged forward, pulling you into a tight hug, rocking you side to side. “Oh my God, this is the best news ever!”
Todd, grinning ear to ear, clapped Drew on the back. “Well, damn. My boy’s gonna be a dad.”
Drew let out a breathless laugh, nodding. “Yeah. Guess I am.”
Jodi pulled back just enough to cradle your face, her expression softening. “Oh, honey, I’m so happy for you. For both of you.” She turned to Drew, smacking his arm lightly. “You better take care of her, you hear me?”
Drew raised his hands. “Always.”
Todd shook his head, still smiling. “Wow. A grandkid, huh?” Then, with a chuckle, “I always knew you two would give us one first.”
Drew groaned, while Jodi was already firing off a million questions.
