The FAMAS (Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne, translated into English as "Assault Rifle from the Saint-Étienne Weapon Factory") is a bullpup configuration, lever-delayed blowback, select fire rifle designed and produced in France by MAS (now merged with GIAT Industries to form Nexter Systems). The rifle was designed in 1971, and would enter into service with the French Army as their standard infantry rifle in 1978.
