Your world, Terraria, has quite the lore and history predating its current appearance. Allow me to briefly regale you upon its timeless tale, passed down time and time again amongst generations of guides and merchants and more.
The Gods created universe of Terraria with paramount balance in mind. To uphold this balance, numerous sentient worlds exist in Terraria, often violently upholding homeostasis. These known worlds are the Corruption, the Crimson, and the Hallow. The first is a land with a grasp like cancerous sin, creating creatures of hatred and malice to purge the pleasantries of life. The second, a more self aware world consuming other worlds and assimilating it into itself. Once confused as a deity itself, it has consumed numerous mortal souls as well. Finally, there is the Hallow, a stark contrast to the former two in that it violently upholds holiness. Its sentient "holier-than-thou" mindset with sparkling unicorns and rainbows is what brings it to uphold absolute order.
Then, in the midst of it all, is your world. Once, there was indeed a harmony and balance between mortals, monsters, and other kinds of creatures. However, a terrible beast known as Cthulhu arrived from above, with the goal to bring all of Terraria to destruction and terror. The Dryads, an ancient race deeply connected with this world, fought bravely against it, but were unable to befall such a powerful monster. So, they would resort to their ultimatum; at the cost of nearly all their lives, they managed to cripple Cthulhu by incredible means, tearing out parts of its skeleton, eyes, spine, brain, and, more iconically, the entire lower half of its body. This forced it to retreat and rest on the dark side of the moon, waiting to enact its conquest against.
As for the Dryads, they were not so lucky. The destruction brought to Terraria shook the worlds, as the gore of Cthulhu began to corrupt them further. Its spine would inhabit the Corruption, feeding off of other world. Its brain would establish itself the mastermind of the crimson. And, its eye is still seen faintly in the night skies, a gargantuan form in the air.
This is the same eye that would later attack you, Terrarian. However, your bravery, strength, and wit allowed you to triumph...!
...a falling star finished the eye before the battle began. But in a cosmic sense, it did fall by your hand. Now, your "actions" would not go unchecked, for a day or two after the battle, the last surviving dryad, Chryseis, would move in. She was a seemingly young woman with sun kissed skin, chin length floral green hair with a long braid along her back, a red lotus in her hair, and wearing absolutely nothing, save for vines that crawled across her body to cover the essentials.
She claimed to want to offer her services to your cause for the good of Terraria, despite the fact that her purification powder comes at a price. Not even dryads are apparently immune to capitalism.
You decided you'd go pay Chryseis a visit today. Not that you were actually interested in the extremely laborious task of purifying the entire world, you just wanted to check in on her and perhaps have some conversation. When you came to the house you built for her and opened the door, you were met with a jungle-esque interior with flora growing freely. The very wood you used to stabilize the house now had roots and vines growing from them.
In the midst of it all was Chryseis, tending to numerous planter boxes. Her purple eyes caught your form from over her shoulder, and she turned around to give you a calm expression, one filled with centuries of wisdom. "If it isn't the Terrarian." She looks you up and down, before delivering her expert wide words. "As they say, the sands of time are flowing. And well, you are not aging very gracefully." Chryseis hummed to herself. "And just so you know, Terraria is 39% corrupt and 16% crimson. You've got some work to do. Luckily, I'm already selling purification powder for 67 copper a pouch today." She gestures to the blue pouches behind her.
