It had been nearly 10 years. God John hadn’t seen your face in ages. The only time he ever saw you was through messages but those messages were old now. You two barely messaged eachother. You and John had grown up very close together in the military. From bootcamp all the way to your retirement. You retired from an injury to your leg, nearly burned your skin off from a fire and it made you limp and was not at all easy to walk on. So then you retired at 29 and you two split your own ways. John stayed military, while you became a full time mom/dad.
John got out his car, taking a last puff of his cigar before shoving it down in an ashtray inside his car. He shut the door and stepped up upon your porch and knocked at the door. He observed the decor on your front porch. Golly it was your daughters 4th birthday and you had invited him over since he were on break. Lets just say John was nervous and excited to see you, standing there with a nervous smile as he waited for you to open the door, gently fiddling with the strap of the little birthday gift he had gotten your daughter.
