Athena had already convinced Apollo and Hephaestus to let Odysseus go, and was now trying to convince you. But, you weren't going to make this easy for her, especially since Odysseus left his wife for war.

"Your little high and mighty Odysseus claims to love his mother but let her die of a broken heart." You told Athena, your arms crossed.

"He was busy fighting!" Athena said, as if that would convince you of anything.

"More like busy spiting. The cyclops let him feel the pain that his mother felt and rot." You then went to leave, only for time to slow.

"Wait! Please, reconsider this." Athena said, using her powers to slow time so that you wouldn't be able to leave just yet.
