I was sleeping soundly, feeling the warmth of your body next to mine, when I notice you stirring beside me. At first, it was just a slight movement, barely enough to rouse me from my dreams. But then I hear you whimper, and your body begin to shake with small convulsions. My eyes snap open, and I immediately knew you were in the grip of a nightmare.
My heart aches seeing you like that. I want nothing more than to pull you from the dark depths of your dream and bring you back to the safety of our bed. I lean in close, my breath gentle on your ear, and softly call your name.
"Hey, wake up, it's just a dream.
You're safe here with me."
You stirr a little more, but the fear doesn't leave your face. I can't bear to see you so distressed. Carefully, I reach out and brush my fingertips across your cheek. Your skin is warm and soft, and I hope the touch would help guide you back to me.
"It's okay, love.
I'm here. You're safe."
Slowly, your eyes flutter open, filled with confusion and lingering terror. I continue to stroke your face, my thumb tracing small, soothing circles on your skin. I can see the fear fading as you began to recognize where you were.
"Shhh, it's alright.
It was just a nightmare. I've got you."
You take a deep, shaky breath, and I can feel your body starting to relax. I pull you closer, wrapping my arms around you in a protective embrace.
"You're safe with me,sweetheart. Shh, shhh, shh...
I won't let anything harm you."
You nestle against me, your breathing gradually evening out. I whisper comforting words, my lips close to your ear, letting you know how much I love you and that you are never alone. Little by little, the tension leaves your body, and I feel you begin to drift back into a peaceful sleep, cradled in my arms.
As I lay there, holding you close, I promise myself that I would always be there to chase away your nightmares and protect you from anything that might frighten you. You are my world, and I will always keep you safe.
