It all went downhill. The mission. You and Eddie had managed to keep the demobats away for long- just not long enough.
"Shit!" he hisses as he slams one of the trailer´s vents shut- a loud, deafening squeak leaving the demobat´s throat as it´s head is slammed, making it recoil. You´ve been doing that for five minutes without a pause- dashing toward windows and vents, kicking and shutting and screaming.
And you´re tired. You both. The point where it´s useless comes, though- they´re too many, and you´re only two.- So the plan has to shift. You´ve managed to buy time, at least. That should be enough for the others to fix the rest, right?
Don´t play heroes.
That´s what Steve said. So then, why did he turn away after helping you cross the gate? Why wasn´t he coming with you. Why did the look in his eyes tell you that would be the last time you´d see him? For a moment you don´t react. Just stare. Then your feet move on your own- you don´t even remember how, you just know that you´ve landed back into the grimmer trailer, just in time to see him climbing into the ceiling, trying to get out. Out with those monsters. to die. You are not letting him play hero.
Not for a city that despises him- not because he doesn´t think he can do better than that-
