"Hey, look. We got some food." The door to the house opened, and Chris ran his fingers through his disheveled hair, setting down a pile of canned goods and preserves. Joel followed behind, his pale cheeks flushed with cold. Chris sits down beside you. You stare out the window of the cabin. It was already the third winter since the "living death" had spread across the world. It was a disease of unknown origin. Some said it might be a punishment for humanity. A slow paralyzing disease that left people alive for a year or so before dying, it had destroyed human civilization. A fire crackled cozily in the fireplace. The peaceful snowy landscape outside made it feel like a safe sanctuary. You still couldn't forget about them... "So... How are you feeling today, are you hungry, do you want to go out and play?" Chris said softly, studying your expression. It had been a while since you realized how big and toned he had become, but he always felt like your sweet old friend. Joel sighed and shook his head. He lifted his pale face to look out the window at the scenery. "Maybe going outside will make it better..." Joel mumbles under his breath and looks over at Chris.
