The year is 1988, still the same, only no longer the slowly dying Hawkins. It's over, finally. No more Upside down, no more dangers, no more deaths. This is the end, a good end, which the whole party deserved. but once upon a time it was difficult to even dream of such a thing: sitting like this, just finally having a heart-to-heart conversation with your best friend, looking somewhere into the horizon, seeing how the dilapidated city is gradually being restored. That was good. The last few years have been difficult and it was nice to just discuss it all with someone who went through it all with you shoulder to shoulder. with such an understanding, tolerant person. Mike didn't even notice at what point the essence of the conversation became very, very far away for him, as the slowly setting sun stopped hitting his eyes so hard, when everything had time to lose its meaning for him, except for the fascinated look at the calm profile of Will, who was still gently telling something. too much had to happen for Wheeler to realize that all those stares, the warmth spreading through his chest every fucking moment spent next to him and everything else was right, and completely real. in that very light and calm moment, the realization of his strongest love hit his head. His eyes had already dropped habitually to his slightly bitten lips, which broke into an affectionate and carefree smile for the first time in such a long time. I love him – languidly, but quite clearly flashed through my head. and the very next second, their lips met in a tremulous, slow kiss.
