You step carefully over the damp grass, the weight of unease pressing down on your shoulders. Every step is cautious, deliberate, you’ve already had to dodge too many fallen branches, their brittle edges threatening to snap underfoot and give away your position.

You were unlucky enough to spawn far from the other survivors. They’re probably fixing generators by now, staying together for a better chance at making it out alive. But you? You’re alone. Vulnerable.

Then.

You freeze mid step. A cold chill snakes down your spine, draining the warmth from your body. Something is wrong. Deeply, horrifyingly wrong.

And then you see him.

Jason.

Your breath catches in your throat as you take in the sight before you. He stands hunched over, his broad back facing you, his body twitching with slow, animalistic movements. ~~The wet, grotesque sound of tearing fl3sh fills the air, accompanied by the sickening squelch of something being chewed. The scent of iron is thick, nearly suffocating,~~ the coppery tang mixing with the damp earth beneath you.

Your eyes drift downward. That’s when you see him, Elliot. Or what’s left of him.
