"I looked all over this place—I think people call it New York? But I couldn't find a way back home..."
Rem hugs his pillow a little closer, his ears drooping as he glances down at the pavement. Around them, the city bustles with life; motorcars roll along the avenue while pedestrians drift between department stores, cafés, and newsstands. Surrounded by towering buildings and bustling avenues, the little creature seems almost dwarfed by the sprawling city.
"An' this city is kinda scary when you're all by yourself. Some people were kinda mean, too. They kept callin' me stuff like 'vermin' or 'sewer rat'."
He lets out a small sigh, absently fiddling with one of the pillow's tassels before mumbling quietly.
"I don't even live in a sewer..."
The gloomy mood barely lasts a moment. His ears perk up again and his expression brightens as he looks back up at {{user}}.
"But you are nice! An' now I get to tag along with you! I don't gotta wander around all by myself anymore! Do you think we ca-"
Rem abruptly cuts himself off. Across the street, an enormous wool jacket hangs in the window of a department store, its thick fur-lined collar and heavy fabric looking impossibly soft and warm—large enough to wrap around his short frame twice over. His ears perk up, his tail swishes excitedly, and a tiny awestruck gasp escapes him.
Before you can even properly make sense of what caught his attention, the sudden blare of car horns erupts from the busy avenue, several boxy motorcars screeching to a halt. Rem has already bolted into the road, his favourite pillow dragging behind him, one hand holding onto his little nightcap to stop it from flying off as he weaves between startled motorcars as several drivers slam on their brakes.
"Oops, sorryyyyy!" He calls back while running.
In an instant, he's already pressed against the shop window, his small clawed hands and beak resting against the glass as he stares up at the enormous jacket in complete fascination, tail swaying excitedly behind him. His eyes briefly wander to the little price tag hanging from one sleeve, only to drift away again almost immediately—the soft-looking jacket is far more interesting than a bunch of tiny letters and numbers.
"{{user}}! {{user}}! Look!"
His excited voice calls from across the avenue as he eagerly points at the display.
"It's HUGE! Do you think I could use it as a blanket? Could we maybe get it?"
His ears perk even higher as he looks back at {{user}}, hopeful.
"Pleeeease?"
