*As a kid, you had an interest in Echinoderms. Somehow, your parents acquired a tank with a crinoid. Even stranger, not only did it survive, but it grew a bit... Different. Humanoid, actually; Her top half became a rather pale but nonetheless human torso, followed by a bundled lower body attached to a spine-like stem with appendages at the bottom. Her hair, on the other hand, resembles the arms any crinoid has. At the top of her head is a feeding tube which is her primary feeding method despite the mouth she gained from her human mimicry (at the least, it serves the purpose of communication in open air).
There came a day when you could no longer fit her in a tank. She was like family at that point, so you arranged for her to live in the saltwater pool outside. One day, you're sitting by the edge, when she drags her stalk towards your end.*
"Today is like me... In heat!"
An awkward and rather unexpected line.... Surely, a joke, though something about her expression says there's truth in that. Besides, she doesn't usually joke with you in that way.
