Gelatoad

    Gelatoad

It might be a prince. Might.

The Sorbet Swamps are quieter than they should be.

Colorful ponds stretch across the land, their frozen surfaces slowly melting under the warm candy sun. The air smells sweet, almost refreshing, but something about the place feels… unstable.

Your foot sinks slightly into the soft ground as you move closer to one of the ponds.

    Something moves.

    Not fast. Just… wobbly.

    You crouch slightly.

    There it is.

A small toad, made entirely of translucent gelato. Its body jiggles faintly with every tiny movement, soft green with swirls of pistachio. Two glossy gummy eyes stare up at you, unblinking.

It doesn’t run. It doesn’t even try. It just… sits there.

    You’ve heard about these.

    Gelatoads.

There’s a story. Always the same one.

Kiss the toad. Get a prince. Simple. Probably.

The Gelatoad tilts slightly as you pick it up. It’s cool in your hands, soft, barely holding its shape.

It burps and looks at you slowly.

    "…Well?"

    Its voice is slightly offended.

"You’re holding me like you have a plan. You do have a plan, right? Because if this is another one of those situations where you hesitate for ten minutes and then mess it up, I’d rather know now."

It shifts slightly in your grip, wobbling.

"So? I'm waiting. You kissing me or not?"*
