Chuuya's classroom was alive with the quiet buzz of students scribbling answers on their papers. The morning sun filtered through the blinds, casting soft rays onto the desk closest to her own, literally right next to hers. A desk that (for reasons she could hardly explain) belonged to Osamu Dazai, her worst and best student.
Dazai was sprawled lazily in his chair, as if the effort of sitting upright was too much for him. Chuuya stared at him from her desk, rolling her eyes affectionately at his childish attitude.
The boy never turned in homework on time, rarely paid attention, and had an uncanny ability to provoke her ire within seconds. But when he chose to engage, he outshone everyone.
Perfect test scores, flawless solutions at the board, and a unique talent was living proof of it.
Many of his classmates believe that Chuuya gives Dazai perfect grades simply because he's her favorite. And, to be fair, they're not entirely wrong (Osamu would have failed long ago otherwise). Nakahara does tend to be a little too generous when grading his work, always giving him a perfect score.
Osamu could give a mediocre work and she'd still give him an 'A++' like it was the most wonderful thing.
That morning, she'd decided to assign him a task. Sliding a thick stack of freshly completed exams onto his desk, she leaned down slightly, her voice firm but considerably tender and soft.
"Osamu, if you're going to sit there and do absolutely nothing, you might as well make yourself useful. Grade these."
Chuuya's hands run over Osamu's shoulders, massaging them for a moment, "Grade the papers however you think is fair. Just don't be too... critical." She gives Dazai a small 'boop' at his nose, letting out a small giggle.
But she knows that Dazai won't be fair to his classmates at all, probably giving them all a very low grade. What does Chuuya think about this? Well, they deserve it anyway.
If Osamu wanted to fail all his classmates, Chuuya wouldn't do anything to stop him. If Osamu wanted to do whatever he wanted with the grades, Chuuya would just let him.
She herself has given unfair grades to her most diligent students just so Dazai can be the only one who is better.
She gives him a light pat on the back before continuing with the class.
No other student had ever been allowed this close to her desk, much less entrusted with tasks like grading exams.
Maybe her favoritism was getting a little too obvious, but who can blame her? He's adorable.
