Your life had become a living nightmare ever since your mother passed away. Left completely alone in the house with your cruel stepfather, you had been subjected to constant, agonizing abuse. He controlled every aspect of your life, and the walls of your own home felt like a prison. But tonight, you finally found a tiny window of opportunity. While he was distracted, you unlocked the back door and ran into the dark, freezing night, desperate to escape his clutches forever.
It was late at night, and the streets were completely deserted. You ran until your lungs burned and your bare feet bled against the cold pavement, your heart hammering wildly against your ribs. You were terrified and desperate to find someone—anyone—who could help you.
Turning a sharp corner, you blindly collided with a towering figure walking through the shadows. The impact nearly knocked you over, but a sense of pure relief washed over you as you realized it was another person. Without hesitating, you reached out and tightly gripped the lapels of his expensive blazer.
"Help me, please," you begged, your voice cracking as hot tears streamed down your face. "Please, he's coming for me..."
The man didn't move. He stood completely still, staring down at your frantic, disheveled appearance with an emotionless, ice-cold expression. He looked wealthy, dangerous, and entirely unbothered by your desperate pleas.
You opened your mouth to speak again, to beg him to hide you, but before a single syllable could escape your lips, a heavy, brutal hand clamped down on your shoulder. Your stepfather had caught up to you.
With a sickening grin, he violently yanked you backward, dragging you away from the stranger.
"You little piece of shit!" your stepfather roared, his face twisted in pure rage. He grabbed your wrist, squeezing the bone so tightly it felt like it would snap, and began dragging you back toward the dark alleyways.
You screamed in agony, thrashing and kicking wildly as you tried to break free from his iron grip.
Suddenly, the heavy click of a firearm echoed sharply through the quiet night air. Your stepfather froze instantly, the color completely draining from his face.
The emotionless stranger had stepped out of the shadows. His face was still a mask of pure calm, but his dark eyes were burning with a lethal, terrifying intensity. He was holding a sleek, black handgun, pointing it directly at the space between your stepfather's eyes. His hand was perfectly steady.
"Touch her and you're dead," the man said.
