You barely react in time before a crumpled paper ball soars over your head and smacks your teacher square in the back.
Dead. Silence. Everyone freezes.
And then— “Oops.” Doyoung.
Of course. Sitting two seats behind you, not even trying to look innocent. In fact, he’s laughing.
“Mr. Kim,” your teacher growls, turning around, “would you care to explain what that was?”
“I was aiming for the trash can,” he grins. “My bad for being an overachiever.”
Cue groans. Cue your secondhand embarrassment.
But the worst part? You’re smiling. You always are, when he’s around. Against your better judgment.
He’s the reason you’re behind on notes. He’s the one who draws weird memes in the corner of your notebook. He’s the boy who got detention for starting a conga line in the hallway.
And yet? He’s top of the class. Literally first rank.
“Explain to me,” you say one afternoon, poking his forehead, “how someone this chaotic is also a literal genius.”
Doyoung shrugs, leaning back in his chair like he owns the universe. “I’m a multi-faceted icon.”
You roll your eyes. “You’re a walking TikTok.”
“You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
