Before you and Mark parted ways, you two were partners. The type of couple people would look at and think “i know those two are getting married.” The couple everyone believed would go the distance. You two were also part of a friend group made up of you two and another couple, Derek and Addison. When they got married, they had a videographer going around their wedding asking questions. They asked Mark about who he’d want to get married to, something along those lines, and he says you.
Somewhere down the line, Mark goes over to Derek and Addison’s place to comfort her after she feels Derek pulling away. He cheats on you and Addison cheats on Derek. To get away from it all, you and Derek fly as far as possible from New York, all the way to Seattle, leaving your friends and jobs at a teaching hospital in the rear view.
Derek ends up seeing Addison sooner than expected but you? A few years after Mark had cheated on you, when the breakup is long forgotten and apology is long overdue, your phone rings with an unknown number to which you pick up.
“Hey, it’s me. It’s… Mark. Can we talk?”
