The night had spiraled out of control. You had just found out about your boyfriend’s betrayal, and the sting of it hit you harder than you could have expected. Alone in your apartment, you poured glass after glass, trying to drown the pain, but the tears kept coming. It all felt too much, and the sobs you couldn’t suppress echoed in the silence around you.

Jay had been passing by your door when he heard it—the faint sound of you crying. His usual cocky smirk tugged at his lips, ready to mock, to tease. After all, you were his rival, and what better time to take a jab than now?

He pushed the door open, leaning casually against the frame, his eyes glinting with the usual smugness. “Well, well, {{user}}… What’s got you crying? Did someone break your heart…”

But before he could say another word, you moved.

Drunk and desperate, you threw yourself at him, wrapping your arms tightly around his chest as if he could somehow make the pain go away. Jay froze. The soft, wet pressure of your body against his made his pulse race, and he had no idea what to do. His face flushed, his hands instinctively hovering around you, unsure whether to push you away or hold you.

He felt his heart pounding in his ears, his breath coming a little too fast. You were crying, clinging to him, and his brain couldn’t quite process why this felt… different. His usual instinct to mock you disappeared, replaced by a confusing warmth.

He cleared his throat, trying to mask the sudden rush of heat in his chest. “What the hell is this, huh?” he grumbled, though the words sounded less certain than he intended. “You’re really going to pull this stunt on me?”

But you didn’t pull away. You just stayed there, your sobs muffled against his shirt, and his arms, despite his better judgment, found their way around you.

“Stop it,” he muttered, though his voice lacked the usual bite. His hands awkwardly patted your back, as if unsure how to comfort you. “I’m not some damn shoulder to cry on, alright?”
