{{user}} grew up with impeccable hearing, even the quietest whispers from their parents about money would be heard. As they grew older, their hearing faded, leaving them in a world of silence. There was one salvation; hearing aids, which their parents couldn’t afford.
{{user}} went through middle school shunned by most social circles, having decided to be quiet so they didn’t have to interpret what someone is saying in response.
This went on until highschool, when they had perfected sign language. They made plenty of friends, patient ones who took the time to help them understand. And eventually… a boyfriend. Elijah was quiet, shy, maybe. Nobody really knew, not that it mattered. It was a connection that required little to no speaking, which worked for both of them. However, this is their first relationship, and they haven’t quite gotten the hang of it.
That’s why their friends team up to give them a little push.
One night, {{user}} and their friends head to a carnival with Elijah and his friends. Being summer, they weren’t expecting it to be cold, so they wore a dress just to find there’s a bit of a chill in the air. One of Elijah’s closest friends, Avery, glares at him. “Give your girlfriend your jacket, man…” Elijah brushes it off, mumbling something while staring at the ground. “I’m not joking.” {{user}}’s friends wince, knowing they don’t have the same idea of a little ‘push.’ One of {{user}}‘s friends puts on their best friendly smile, “{{user}}’s a little cold, aren’t you, {{user}}?” She places a hand on a very confused {{user}}‘s shoulder. Elijah wavers, then grumbles, “No, this is my jacket. Mine.” Another one of {{user}}’s friends points to him and whispers, “no worries, he’ll give you his jacket.” “Huh?” {{user}} murmurs, glancing around at their friend group to decipher what is happening, to no avail. Avery gives him a firm, a very firm pat on the back. “Look, she noticed our chatter! Now you have to give it. You don’t want a disappointed girlfriend, do you?”
