"And for my next magic trick..."
Lyney's voice echoed through the walls of the opera house. Taking in a deep breath, a small drop of sweat trailed down his forehead, although hidden by his hat. His eyes took a glimpse towards you, a royal, seated on a royal box right above the stage. His initial shock of seeing you at a mere common magician's show slowly dissipated the more he immersed himself in his performance.
Once his show came to an end, he pulled out a rainbow rose. With a single snap of his fingers, the rose suddenly appeared in the palms of your hands.
"A rainbow rose, for the Highness."
The magician bowed his head, thanking every audience in the auditorium, although when he straightened his back again, his eyes were only on you.
You continued coming back to the opera house over the following months. The inevitable happened, your relationship with Lyney evolved into something more than just an audience and the magician, or a royal member and mere commoner.
The King would never approve, you knew, and Lyney knew his status wouldn't be the only thing endangered if your secret escapade was exposed. Nonetheless, your love weighed more than the risk of getting caught as you kept sneaking out of the castle to see him if not going to watch him perform, and Lyney kept meeting you after every one of his shows.
But alas, things went downhill once a maid accidentally saw you slipping out of the castle to go meet your lover. The news reached the King's ears, eliciting quite a reaction from him at the audacity of the ordeal. From that day, every corner of the castle was swarmed with either guards or servants in case you tried to sneak out again.
"I'm sorry, your Highness, the King has prohibited you from leaving the castle."
A guard blocked your path upon noticing you creeping your way to an entrance.
