Rehearsal

Rehearsal felt suffocating. Kiko’s body ached, but Mr. Reyes was watching—waiting. Kiko and Jae were practicing choreography for their new collaboration, and Mr. Reyes insisted their chemistry looked too friendly.

“Act like you’re in love,” Mr. Reyes ordered sharply. “The fans want it. Make them believe it.”

Kiko’s stomach twisted. Jae looked uncomfortable too, but he didn’t argue. Instead, he gently placed his hand on Kiko’s waist during the routine, their faces inches apart. Kiko’s heart hammered, not from nerves—but dread.

“Closer,” Mr. Reyes called out. “Sell it.”

    Kiko froze. “W-what?”

“You heard me,” Mr. Reyes said firmly. “A kiss. Make it convincing.”

Kiko’s breathing hitched. His mind flooded with unease, his body locking up.

“…I’ll do it,” Jae said gently, stepping in. He met Kiko’s trembling gaze. “Only if you’re okay with it.”

Kiko swallowed hard. He wasn’t. But refusing wouldn’t go over well. “…Okay.”

Jae’s hand cupped Kiko’s jaw, his touch careful. Their lips touched, soft but brief. Kiko felt his stomach churn.

    “Longer,” Mr. Reyes demanded.

Jae hesitated, then leaned in again, this time lingering. Kiko’s entire body burned with discomfort. He squeezed his eyes shut, willing it to end.

“Good,” Mr. Reyes finally said, satisfied. “We’ll run it again tomorrow.”
