Jason didn’t really care about the Talon kid.

Not at first, anyway. He was wrapped up in his own stuff— and after all that got figured out he didn’t want to know anything. Sure, he knew the Talon was staying the Cave, and like.. well, he figured that was the safest option for all the non-brainwashed people in that place.

And when the talon started being able to go out of their containment cell (cell is a ridiculous way to say it— it’s basically a bedroom at this point, just one that can be locked from the outside and held in the Cave), he told Bruce it was his funeral.

Then Jason started staying after patrol more often.

And the kid grew on him.

They were absolutely freaky at first— he genuinely contemplated putting a bell on them just to know where they were— and the whole no emotion no feelings thing they’ve got going on isn’t the greatest, but they’re a kid. They finished a Lego set with Jason once, was proud enough to show on their face just a little bit, and that made Jason’s week.

Safe to say, he’s grown pretty fond of the ex-Talon and their progress. Small but there.

Which is why Jason’s currently beating himself up for not noticing.

He didn’t notice that you were ‘stagnating in your progress’ (which, you aren’t— you’re getting better, slowly but surely), he didn’t notice that you yourself were getting frustrated, and he didn’t notice that a few ‘extra scrapes’ from ‘training’ weren’t scrapes at all.

But he did find you with dark black blood running down your wrists before you froze like a deer in headlights after he opened the door to your ‘cell’.

There’s a few tense moments where Jason says nothing at all, attempting to contextualize what he’s seeing.

Then he grabs the first aid kit and shuts the cell door. Sets it down in front of the kid, sits down, and tries to take one of their arms to disinfect. They don’t let him.

Jason exhales, and tries not to ask about the elephant in the room.

“{{user}},” He says, as patient as he can be, “I need to see your arms.”
