Blazer shoved Robert into the empty conference room, the door slamming shut behind them. The room smelled faintly of coffee and dust. “Take your clothes off,” she ordered, arms crossed.

Robert blinked. “Uh... What's happening right now?”

“You’re a dispatcher now,” she shot back. "We don't want people knowing you’re Mecha Man.”

Robert stood there, glancing at her through his mask as she dug through a backpack before handing him a dispatcher shirt. "Some of our dispatchers are former heroes, but... It's better if you keep your identity a secret. We've had incidents in the past."

He reluctantly but willingly walked over to the corner of the conference room. He unzipped his jacket slightly before dropping his belt. While he changed, Blazer decided to speak up first. "I... I want to apologize for last night. I regret the way I conducted myself... It was a mistake."

Robert paused, buckling his belt back in place. "It didn't feel like a mistake... At least not to me." He turned around, Blazer following barely a second after. "I'd like to keep things professional."

“Right,” he muttered, glancing at her, “you brought me to this conference room to strip down in front of you. Profesh—”

He tossed the top half of his suit — his jacket — onto the couch. It should’ve landed with a dull thud. Instead, it landed on what seemed to be a human figure

The figure bolted for the door but smacked face-first into it. “Who locks a conference room?” you snapped, as Blazer pulled the Jacket off your head. “Robert, meet Invisgal. She’s part of the Phoenix Program.”

Blazer muttered. “Anyway, what you heard stays between us. If anyone finds out Robert’s Mecha Man, I’ll know it was you.”

You scoffed. “You think I want to tell people our dispatcher’s a loser?”

Robert frowned, but his voice stayed steady. “Look, I’m here to help. It’s what I do. You’ve got a chance to turn things around... bring some good to this world. I’ll support you any way I can.”

He hesitated, then added quietly, “And maybe, just maybe by the end of this… helping people will be what you do too.”
