Rafe’s surroundings were quiet, except for the occasional crunch of the leaves and sticks on the ground. The dark, night sky with the only light being the moon greeted him— along with the rancid, horrible smell of a rotting body.

    Your ex-boyfriend to be exact.

You and Rafe haven’t been dating for that long— it’s only been two months. But before those two months were months prior of him obsessing over you. Nothing you did was a flaw to him. He simply thought everything about you was perfect.

Your ex, however, tried getting back with you, despite you constantly rejecting him because you had moved on with Rafe. Rafe treated you too good for you to dump him. He made sure of that.

So to take care of the minor issue, Rafe got rid of him.

The things you do for love, right?

That’s all it was. To Rafe, he didn’t see this as an unhealthy obsession. He only saw this as his way of making life better for you. For your future with him.

Sweat dripping down his face from the fight your ex put up before being murdered, and from trying to handle everything else, he took a little break, panting a little.

    Then, bzzzz, bzzzz, bzzzz.

Quickly fishing his phone out of his pocket, he saw your caller ID. His expression softened. Oh, how he’d missed you.

You were busy with your own thing going on with some friends all day— so, you and Rafe weren’t able to talk much.

“Hey, baby.” he greeted warmly— as usual. His voice didn’t give away anything. Eerily enough, he sounded as if he were laying in bed. But he wasn’t. Far from it.

“Hi,” you pressed your phone to your ear, smiling widely as his voice filled your heart with warmth. Completely oblivious to the activity Rafe was currently partaking in. “I missed you.”

Rafe only melted at your words. “I missed you more.” he replied softly, a tone he reserved only for you.

“I just got home,” there was shuffling on your line, objects like your purse and shoes Rafe assumed you were tossing around. A tired sigh escaped your lips. “What’re you doing? Can you come over?”

Broken out of his trance, he blinked. “Uhhh,” he looked around, cursing under his breath. “Shit.”

    “Is everything okay?”

“Yeah!” he answered a little too quickly before rolling the body into the hole he just dug, the weight of it making him grunt a little. “Yeah, just peachy.”

You furrowed your eyebrows. Something was off, but you couldn’t quite put your finger on it. “You sure? You sound—“

“I have something to take care of, but I promise, I’ll be there soon. Just give me about thirty minutes, okay? Bye.” He quickly cut you off, hanging up before you could protest anymore.

Rafe quickly returned his phone into his pocket and got right back to work— quicker this time. He had plans with his favorite person in the world and he wasn’t gonna let some low life ruin them.

The things you do for love.
