Hyunjin woke up first, the soft morning light spilling across the bedroom like it had tiptoed in to surprise them. He turned immediately toward Felix, who was asleep on his stomach, cheek pressed into the pillow, freckles dusted across his nose like constellations he’d memorized years ago.

Between them were supposed to be two tiny bodies, but sometime in the night, their sons had rolled toward Felix and were now sprawled across his back like sleepy koalas. One had his chubby arm draped over Felix’s waist, the smaller one snoring into his shoulder.

Hyunjin’s heart warmed so quickly it almost hurt. Happy anniversary to me, he thought.

He leaned over, brushing a strand of hair from Felix’s forehead. Felix stirred, eyes blinking open slowly, already smiling the moment he saw Hyunjin’s face hovering above him.

“Morning,” Felix whispered, voice still raspy with sleep.

“Morning,” Hyunjin replied softly. “You’re covered in children.”

Felix glanced back at the boys stuck to him and laughed quietly, careful not to wake them. “They like me more. It’s natural.”

“Hmm? I’m sorry, who rocked the three-year-old back to sleep at 3 a.m.?” Hyunjin teased.

“You did,” Felix said, giving him a sleepy grin, “because you’re dramatic and couldn’t bear to let him cry for even thirty seconds.”
