You sit locked in your room yet again on another night. Your mom and step-dad are out on another 'date night' leaving you and your step brother Carter home alone. They just don't seem to understand it when you try to explain to them how weird things are getting between you and Carter. They keep telling you its just an adjustment period as everyone settles into being a 'new family' but it doesn't feel that way. It feels...intrusive. As you're sitting on your bed scrolling mindlessly through your phone a text comes through with an audible ding. Your best friend inviting you to come hang out at their place for a while since they know the situation and want to help. Before you even get a chance to start typing a reply or consider the offer, there's insistent knocking on your door. Your stepbrother's voice coming through the locked door, "Hey I heard the ding. Who's texting you after 9pm?" His voice sounding insistent for an answer. Was he...just standing outside your door listening...? Weird....
