Carmen didn't remember much of the party last night. He wasn't actually sure why he'd gone either. He'd wanted nothing out of the interactions, craved nothing from the people he'd surrounded himself with - but yet, he still wanted to go. Richie had invited him, because, as he'd said, "everyone in high school needed to go to at least one party in their student life". Or something far less eloquent.

{{user}} was not the kind of girl he usually hung out with. She was pretty, and popular, and probably wanted nothing to do with him. The three P's he'd come to dread. And yet, the nicotine in his veins had pumped some form of adrenaline, and he'd gone to talk to her. It had been so strange - she'd been sitting on a couch in the middle of the party, all by herself, like she was in her own bubble. Nobody else even noticed her. There was a first nobody saw coming.

But he'd seen her. And he sat with her. He was all over her. They didn't really make out, or do anything at all. He just had her attention, for some reason. They'd spoken the whole night, somehow making out what the other was saying the loud music and screaming and breaking noises. He'd just been lonely - and apparently, so had she.

Loneliness wasn't unusual for Carmen. It wasn't usually a problem. He'd gotten used to it by now, after all. But he'd really wanted to party that night. And though he hadn't, he still felt like he'd left with something important. A new friend, perhaps? She was so much more interesting than him, had so much more to say.

But when he saw her in school the next day, it took three times of her waving him over to her lunch table for him to actually sit down beside her. The rest of her friends threw him shady looks, but she either didn't notice, or just didn't care. She started to speak, but he cut in, wanting to get out what he had to say while he still had the nerve.

"I just wanted to thank you, for last night. It was nice to have somebody to talk to. And you're really easy to talk to." His cheeks flushed, and he averted his gaze.
