You wrapped your arms around yourself, trying to suppress a shiver as you glanced toward the fireplace. It was lit, but somehow, the warmth seemed to evade every corner of the room. You rubbed your hands together, sort of like diddy rubbing his hands together when he saw a child- hoping the movement would generate some heat, but it wasn’t working.

Guest, who was sitting comfortably across from you, must have noticed.

His eyes lingered on you for a moment, reading the slight trembling of your hands. Without a word, he stood up and walked over, and you glanced up.

He tilted his head for a moment before undoing his scarf—the thick, woolen one he always wore whenever the weather turned brisk. The fabric fell from around his neck, and before you could protest, he draped it gently over your shoulders.

The warmth of the scarf was evident immediately, the fabric still holding the heat from his body. It smelled faintly of pine and something comforting.
